Emotional Health and Wellbeing Team: COVID-19 Update

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service has had to make some adjustments to its service provision. The team is pleased to share that it is still able to offer schools and other professionals the ‘what if’ type conversations that were so popular before. If you would like to speak to one of the team Practitioners the easiest way is to email the duty inbox: ccs.ehw@nhs.net. Please include a couple of possible dates and times for the team to call you back for a ‘what if’ discussion, along with the best number to contact you on at those times. The team will then confirm via email when they will call you back. The team is available to book calls between 9:30–4:00 Monday–Friday.

Please note that although at the beginning of the pandemic the team offered supportive phone calls to parents, it has now returned its focus to supporting professionals who have a concern about a child’s emotional wellbeing. Parents can still phone the new Central Duty Number 0300 029 5050 and ask to speak to the School Nursing Team (or Health Visitor if the child is under five years old) for advice about a range of issues that they may be worried about.

The team has also begun to offer staff clinic sessions via a virtual platform which can be booked by contacting the duty email ccs.ehw@nhs.net. Staff clinics are an opportunity for school staff to discuss up to four children in a two hour slot. It is often used to give teachers or teaching assistants time to think about why they are concerned about the child/children and to look more closely at a whole class approach to supporting them and other children. This may be extremely beneficial in the current circumstances.

The team is mindful that it is not only the children who have been affected by all of the changes and worries that the pandemic and new way of working and living has created. Therefore it is planning how best to offer support to education staff who would like to have dedicated time to think about how they have been impacted and to help find a way forward. Details of this will be available soon, but in the meantime please do contact the team via the duty email if you want to chat. Please also remember there is free support for education staff available here.
